Appendix - Client Type Definitions

  a) A Cross-Border, Non-Affiliated Custody or Clearing Client (CB/NA)

A global custodian or custodian bank or fund manager or institutional investor or broker-dealer based in one jurisdiction buying sub-custody or custody services from a custodian bank in another or several jurisdictions, or a broker-dealer based in one jurisdiction buying clearing and settlement services from a custodian bank in another or several jurisdictions. It excludes commercial or corporate entities buying, for example, a depository receipt service from a bank.

(b) A Domestic Client

A domestic broker-dealer, bank or other domestic financial institution, such as a fund manager or pension fund or insurance company, using a domestic custodian or domestic clearing agent in a domestic market. This definition includes the domestic arms of international groups, where they are being serviced in a domestic market, but excludes domestic clients for whom a global custody service is being provided through a proprietary network or through a third party global custodian (see below). It also excludes commercial or corporate entities.

(c) An Affiliated Client

An organisation affiliated with the agent bank being assessed in the survey, through ownership or joint venture or business alliance.

(d) A Domestic Global Custody Client

domestic fund manager or institutional investor, such as a pension fund or insurance company, who is buying a global custody service from a domestic custodian bank that operates a proprietary agent bank network. These clients should complete one of the two Global Custodian Global Custody questionnaires NOT the Agent Bank questionnaire. The definition of a domestic global custody client excludes global custody clients of domestic banks that have outsourced their global custody requirements to a global custodian.
